Veli Losinj is situated on the southern part of the island of Losinj in the Kvarner region.
Veli Losinj is a village with about 1000 residents which is mainly engaged in tourism, fishing and agriculture.

The island of Losinj with a length of 33 km is the 11th largest island in the Adriatic, and have very strong links with the mainland by regular boat lines, ferry (from Cres and Osor) and plane.

The climate on the island is Mediterranean, characterized by long hot summers and short mild winters with around 2600 sunny hours a year; the sea temperature around the island of Losinj during spring, summer and fall is a few degrees higher than air temperature.

The mild climate of Losinj is reflected in its richness of plant species. According to 1018 research identified plant species, of which 939 belong to the indigenous flora species. Of these 230 species are medicinal plants.
